The Science of Reading

Students progress through phonics, fluency, vocabulary, then comprehension using the Science of Reading approach. This is a systematic approach which developments the physical changes that occurs while learning to read. Foundation Learning focuses on this approach while closing in gaps, using repetition, and allowing the student to move at their own pace.

The Science of Measuring Reading

Measuring a student's reading is a necessity to ensure the student is reading the appropriate level books, and whether emphasis should be placed on phonics, fluency, or comprehension. FLC uses multiple tools to assess students' reading development, including oral reading, reading modeling, and online tools. To help you, as the parent, to understand your child's development at FLC versus what your child's school has report as their level of development, we use the same assessment models and software that is used in Gwinnett County schools. Therefore, when comparing FLC reading levels and your child's reading level assigned by their school, you are comparing apples to apples.
